What is a civil funeral?

A civil funeral is “A funeral driven by the wishes, beliefs and values of the deceased and their family. Not by the beliefs and ideology of the person conducting the funeral”

Families can ensure this final act of love focuses entirely on their loved one. It may be a celebration or reflection of their life. The style and tone are appropriate to them whilst being sensitive to the circumstances of their death.

The ceremony itself may include music, readings, poetry and symbolic gestures such as candles and photographs. Religious or spiritual elements such as prayers and hymns can be included. Or the ceremony can be entirely non-religious.

A little bit about me - Simon Handcock

My inspiration for choosing and qualifying as a funeral celebrant comes from creating and delivering a number of personal tributes at family funerals over the years.

This experience has taught me the importance of including every aspect of a person’s life and how, by delivering the right tribute, a ceremony can have a positive influence in the loss of a loved one, creating a permanent and cherished memory.

I am passionate to ensure that each tribute is bespoke, reflecting and including every important detail of your loved ones life. I will listen to everything you say and together we will create an individual, personal ceremony that they would be proud of, and you will remember.
